Declaring unto you the whole Counsel of God
Henry T. Mahan was born in Birmingham, Alabama August 1926. He began pastoring at the young age of 21 and has wide experience in the pastoral ministry, having been pastor of Thirteenth Street Baptist Church, Ashland, Kentucky, for over 50 years. He also travels widely as a conference speaker and evangelist. He prepared Commentaries out of pastoral concern for his own congregation and church leaders.
Henry wrote Bible Class Commentaries with complete verse-by-verse explanation of all the New Testament epistles from Romans to Jude for those who teach Bible classes in Sunday School, house groups, Christian unions or youth groups; for those who want help in their personal devotions but do not have the time to study the weightier commentaries; for the Christian who wants a straightforward presentation of the key facts and messages of the epistles; for those wanting a handy, quick and reliable explanation of a passage or verse. He also wrote Pictures of Christ In The Old & New Testament Eyes, which shows how well-known passages and incidents of Old & New Testament all point to Christ – his person, glory and redemptive work. These commentaries were published by Evangelical Press and have been well received.
What draws the positive reaction from people all over the world to Henry Mahan’s preaching is not primarily the man, but the message. It is not the preacher so much as the One preached. Listeners know that each one of these sermons will honour their precious Saviour and lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Henry believes in the sovereign free grace of God. He sees all of God’s plan and purpose directed toward one end of glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ in the salvation of sinners. His sermons are God honouring, Christ exalting, and places the Savior at the forefront of our attention, the worth of Christ’s blood and righteousness on the lips of every saved sinner.
